Schumacher has full Mercedes support

Michael Schumacher has received the full backing from his Mercedes GP team, which says it has no doubts the German can help deliver strong results despite his difficult race in Turkey last weekend. Schumacher missed out on the points in Istanbul after losing time early on in a collision with Vitaly Petrov which required him to make an unscheduled stop for a new front wing

New engine rules set in stone ? Todt

FIA president Jean Todt has indicated there is no going back on plans for Formula 1 to switch to 1.6-litre turbocharged engines in 2013 - despite resistance from some teams. Although the change of engine formula received unanimous support from manufacturers and the governing body when it was initially voted through, in recent weeks concerns have grown about the cost implications of such a big move

Vettel glad one-run gamble paid off

Sebastian Vettel admitted it was 'strange' to complete just one run during the final segment of qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver secured his fourth pole position of the season, despite deciding to skip his final run in order to save tyres for the race tomorrow. The decision meant Vettel got out of his car before the end of the session, watching his rivals trying to beat his time

Loeb leading into final day in Italy

Sebastien Loeb is looking secure in the lead of the Rally d'Italia, having kept his rivals comfortably at bay through a second day of running first on the road. With only four stages scheduled for Sunday, Loeb's 28.3-second lead over Mikko Hirvonen should be sufficient - even though the Ford driver gained two places and closed on Loeb by 27s during today's six stages.

Renault confident about upgrades

Renault technical director James Allison says he is 'very confident' about the programme of updates that his team is bringing to its car over the next few races, as it eyes a return to the podium. The Enstone-based outfit had a very strong start to the season, scoring top-three finishes in Australia and Malaysia, but since then Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov have been left battling for lower points positions. However, with the team working hard on an aggressive development programme, Allison says the focus is firmly on delivering the speed the team will need to be back near the front
