SRO: F3 date clash was unavoidable

Difficulties securing a British Formula 3 date at the Nurburgring for 2011 meant the new FIA F3 International Trophy could not visit Silverstone in its inaugural season, British championship organisers have revealed. The original plan was for the F3 Euro Series' proposed September date at Silverstone to double up as a round of the new six-event 'world championship' for F3. This would have made it easier to attract British teams to a Euro Series race and thus maximise the grid

Sainz wins opening Dakar stage

Defending champion Carlos Sainz kicked off his Dakar title defence in perfect fashion on Sunday after winning the opening timed stage. The Volkswagen driver, who scored his maiden Dakar win last year, finished the 222-km special 1:31 minutes ahead of Dakar legend Stephane Peterhansel, second today in the X-Raid BMW. Sainz dominated the stage from Victoria to Cordoba, setting the quickest time in all the control points before crossing the finish line with a time two hours and 18 minutes.

Domenicali considered quitting team role

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has revealed that he considered quitting his position at the end of last year in the immediate aftermath of the strategy mistake in Abu Dhabi that cost Fernando Alonso the world title. Alonso had looked on course to deliver the championship in Abu Dhabi but Ferrari made an error in trying to cover Mark Webber's early stop for tyres - with the Australian having appeared to be the main threat for the title at that point

CytoSport lands Aston Martin deal

Team CytoSport has concluded a partnership deal with Aston Martin Racing to run one of the marque's LMP1 cars in the American Le Mans Series this year.
